Undead or Alive
This “zombie” film is set in the Old West. It stops being good there.
Starring such greatest as Chris Kattan and James Denton, how could this film not be awesome?
I would like to start by denying this film zombie status. But, their explaining away of zombie rule violations well. Apparently, just before Geronimo died, he put a curse on the white man that makes them come back from the dead and want to eat people. These reanimated corpses, though, are generally stronger and will eat anything. They can still talk, which I think was supposed to make them funny and to kill them, you need to cut off the head.
So anyway, the movie follows Kattan and Denton as they steal some money, break out of jail and then have to get away from the Sheriff, who is, of course, reanimated. Along for the ride is Geronimo’s niece, who attempts to help them stop the flesh-eating horde.
I really wanted to enjoy this film and to laugh at it. I mostly sat bored, yawning at the forced lazily written jokes. The only real saving grace of the film was Brian Posehn. The always fantastic actor plays a reanimated corpse the entire film. I would like to point out that he really isn’t funny or anything. It’s just that Brian Posehn is rad, so his presence brought this movie up a notch.
Should you watch “Undead or Alive”. Enh, no real reason to do that. The lack luster special effects bookended by terrible plot and dialogue definitely leave something to be desired. If you want to watch good zombie comedy, go watch Shaun of the Dead.
