Sunshine

Well done, Danny Boyle.

This movie is great on so many levels.

It’s the story of a group of people who have to go reignite the sun. The people of Earth have already tried this mission once, but it failed, so this is their last and final chance to save humanity.

This is a beautiful piece of work with great contrasts between the crew inside the ship and the massive heat and light outside the ship. The characters are plagued with defects, which eventually leads to their demise.

While heading toward the sun, they begin to receive a distress beacon from the previous mission’s ship. Upon investigation, terrible events occur which threaten the mission altogether.

I really enjoy the visual representation of Cillian Murphy’s character, Capa’s, dreams that he is falling into the sun. These dream sequences are used sporadically throughout the film and create intensity and anxiousness. These sequences also build on similar visuals as captain and crew are forced to beat the odds to save the world.

This is a great sci-fi film that is worth at least watching once. It has kind of a 2001 meets Event Horizon feel to it, is well made and well acted.
