Push

A confusing jumble of trying too hard, with some decent special effects.

This movie could’ve been cool.

It’s the story of some people with psychic powers who are trying to stop each other from doing stuff. Basically, there is a drug that increases your powers, some people have it, the others want it.

Seems simple enough. That is, until they start throwing in 90 people with 10 different powers. Powers to manipulate thoughts, telekinesis, people who scream and make your brain explode, people who heal, you know the usual.

So, they start bringing in all these different characters with different powers. You sit through an hour and 40 minutes of their blah blah and then it just ends. They may as well put a “to be continued” up at the end. Closure? Must be overrated. You should never make a movie with the intention of making a sequel, it makes you do dumb things.

The one thing Push had going for it was the special effects. A great combination of CG and practical effects really worked well together. I was impressed with the scene in which the screamers made a ton of fish and the tanks they were in explode as the actors ran passed them. That was cool.

Honestly, this film was a lot like Day Watch and Night Watch. Special effects and an idea that are really great, but it just fails to work. I don’t know if it’s Dakota Fanning or just the contrived dialogue. Whatever it was Push just didn’t do it for me. Better luck with Push 2, I guess.

I agree on the Day/Night Watch point. Good redesign. I’m glad that you changed up the resolution. It looks really good.
