Paranormal Activity

I went in with the attitude that I wanted this movie to creep me out.

The first 90% did not disappoint.

This film is a Blair Witch stuck in a house. A twenty-something girl has been harassed by a “ghost” since she was 8 and now the altercations have been getting worse. Her boyfriend decides to buy a camera and film their bedroom at night on hopes of catching some “Paranormal Activity”.

See what they did there?

Anyway, the movie consists of day footage of the girl complaining about everything and time lapsed footage of them sleeping. The acting is actually decent in comparison to most horror films. Our female lead wakes up to the sound if creaky floors and foot steps, whilst her bonehead boyfriend thinks that throwing f-bombs at the monster will save the day.

The night shots are well edited and quite suspenseful. Several minutes of nothing followed by loud noises keep you on the edge of your seat.

My only real problem with the film is the ending. They were so good at using subtleties, but then they took it to a different level that was quite frankly distracting and disappointing. That being said, if you are a fan of scary movies or have a lady friend who is, check out this movie. But go in wanting to be creeped out, not mocking everything you see.

I really didn’t think this movie was creepy at all. It was predictable. The boyfriend was a complete d-bag so I spent most of the movie hoping he would be disembowled or something. There were a couple of cool scenes (which I won’t say here cause I don’t want to act as a spoiler). But overall the movie was better than I expected, but still not good. The acting was decent in parts. The girl did awesome when she was scared or freaked out, but there was one scene where you could tell she was trying to cry and couldn’t, and that made me laugh. The ending was very unoriginal.

Agreed, great movies. I thought it would have been much better if she just walked back into room and turned off the camera. 1. Subtle creepy 2. she finally gets her wish for him to turn off the camera… good metaphor 3. It keeps with the real flow of the film.

    Good stuff.
