LOST – The Incident (s5e16&17)
Holy crap.
I had high expectations for this season finale and they were met.
The plot follows Locke and his gang of Others on their way to meet Jacob. Jack and co. decide to bomb the Swan and Team Sawyer tries to stop him.
First of all, the Jacob reveal at the beginning was awesome. I loved how it showed that he was there with his opposite and their interaction revealed a lot about his character. It appears that Jacob is bringing people to the island for some purpose. Some reason that he thinks he needs the outsiders to come and do something. Why would he bring the Black Rock to the island? Is it the Hanso / Widmore destiny? And how the crap is that thing going to get stuck in the middle of the jungle?
His antagonist obviously thinks otherwise. John Dahlgren also immediately noticed the fact that Jacob was wearing white whilst the other guy was wearing black. Character foreshadow? I’d have to think so, considering by the end that Jacob had some sort of positive intentions and the other guy definitely does not want any one else coming to the island.
I also loved that we saw Jacob moving into the lives of the characters in their past. Interestingly enough, he did not show up in Juliet’s past and odds are fairly good at this point that she’s a goner. Does this represent that the people he visited are truly the ones with destiny connected to the island?
Sticking with these characters, but jumping to the end of the episode, we find out that good ol Locke is actually dead. I’m glad that I sort of called this one, of course I had no way of knowing it was the reincarnation of Jacob’s island enemy, but still, I’ll take it. What was the loop-hole, though, that allowed him to kill Jacob? Was it having Ben do it? The fact that Jacob lives in the foot is pretty rad. Glad they finally gave us some insight to the foot we saw in season 2. Why did Jacob move their though? What did it mean that the ash by the cabin was disturbed?
It’s also interesting to see that Locke was told about turning the wheel by Christian. Christian manipulated many people on the island. Alex told Ben to follow Locke no matter what. Is the smoke monster some manipulation of this man who now occupies Locke? Was he the one using Christian’s body and why didn’t that work and need him to come back as Locke? Man, more questions than answers at this point.
Rose and Bernard living in the jungle with Vincent. A nice touch to the episode showing that those two characters are probably going to be around until the end. Maybe a sign that they will be our Adam and Eve after all.
Moving onto Jacko, I’m so glad Myles brought up the fact that detonating the bomb might be what causes the incident. Everyone thinks that they can change the future, but once again, Hawking would’ve already done that if it were possible. I’m sticking by the fact that the incident returns them to the present and their destiny was to set off the bomb and cause the incident to occur.
But why did Juliet have to fall down the hole. That sucked. I was really hoping that she and Sawyer would be the ones in the cave at the end of all this. They had great character chemistry and it was easy to root for them. Now Sawyer will probably just want to off himself.
Sorry Dr. Chang, that arm had to go. Once again, the moment that took place, it fulfilled that what they are doing is not changing the future, but proving it. Too bad we already know that Radzinsky is going to stay alive until the Swan is completed and Kelvin is around, that guy is a douchebag.
Lastly, what’s going to happen now that Juliet gave the bomb the whack? As previously stated, I’m thinking it will release the energy and cause one final time shift. The one that sends our gang back to the present to deal with New Locke and the Others. It’s on like donkey kong, unfortunately, it’s not on for 8 months or so…

It might be a character foreshadow, but I’m staying on the fence because after all, it’s LOST.
Thanks for the shout out though.
