LOST – Namaste (s5e9)
Sawyer tries to get Jack and the gang into DHARMA without suspicions rising.
This season has been one great episode after another. I think this ep revealed a ton of interesting things.
First, let’s discuss the new contrast of Sawyer as a leader over Jack. Sawyer points out that he is a thinking and Jack just reacted when he was running the show. I think that in hindsight, this is easily noticed. Sawyer’s life as a con-man has given him the knowledge that you can’t just go in guns blazing all the time. You need to anticipate and have options. Jack, on the other hand, has been the run-and-gun leader from the get go.
You can’t blame Jack, of course. He was definitely thrust into the leadership position and had a lot of crazy crap to deal with. Sawyer might have taken on the role in a more voluntary manner, still has to be smart and cover his tracks. This was something Jack was never good at. Something else Jack was never good at was letting other people have control.
Look at how he treated Locke with the whole hatch scenario. Guarding the guns, setting up the army, keeping secrets… Jack is someone who needs control, even if he doesn’t know what he’s doing when he has it.
I think Sawyer can sit back and let someone else do the leg work because in a majority of situations, he is running the show, but no one else realizes it. ie how Sawyer got the guns.
Overall, this shift is really going to affect Jack and Sawyer’s already tense relationship. Well, that and the fact that now our love triangle has turned into a love quad.
Next, let’s talk about Faraday being gone. Whoa. Sawyer mentions that Faraday isn’t with them anymore. What does this mean? We’ve seen Faraday working in the Orchid, presumably within the time of them finding DHARMA and the present 1977. We also have heard his voice when Chang is talking on the video released last summer at Comic Con. It’s my belief that Faraday has done something drastic and has disappeared or Chang realized how much Faraday knows and the two try and do something by putting their collective wits together. Either way, that Faraday episode is going to be sweet.
I totally called the Ajira crashers not being back in time. Sure, you can say it was obvious, but I called it from the beginning. That aside, why didn’t Sun flash? I can understand Frank and Ben, but why not her? My initial reaction is because she has proven to be the dark angel of death in hiding. She works primarily on personal motivation and really could care less about the island. While Jack, Kate, Sayid and Hurley may not have a conscious vested interest, I think the island knows it has more work for them to do.
Christian appearing to Sun is very interesting though. Especially considering it was right after they saw Smokey (well right after they saw Smokey and then walked the distance from the dock to the barracks). If the island needed her for any reason, why not flash her to 1977? Perhaps it needs her to bring them back to the real present? I think that Ben, Sun, Frank and Locke have to play a vital role in returning them to their right time, but that our other Ajira crash victims may not be so keen on the intentions.
So Sayid meets Little Ben. Holy crap. While blatantly obvious from the moment he walked in the door, it was no less awesome to see this meeting. What does this mean of Ben? Does he know even more that he originally let on. This could really change our perspective of Ben while he was watching 815 crash. Not only did he know it was going to crash, he already knew some of the people who were on it. Granted, he may also not realize that these adults from his past were actually the Losties, since he did not flash to 1977 and might not put 2 and 2 together. But it’s Ben and I’m going to just assume he always knows exactly what’s going on.
Horace and Amy had Ethan. Awesome. How fast Juliet gets rid of him once she finds out who he is? More awesome.
On one other quick note, I think it’s interesting that we’ve previously seen an episode titled “Enter 77″ in which the Flame station attendant was supposed to enter the code 7-7 if the station has had an “incursion by the hostiles”. While maybe just coincidence, I find it interesting that this is also the current year in which they find themselves. I don’t know, something to think about.

I’ve been waiting for young Ben to show up. That was awesome.
Kate is a ruiner. She ruins everything.
I love Sawyer running the show. And I still hate Jack.
