LOST – Lighthouse (s6e5)

Jacko-centric and quite good.

Jack’s side reality reveals that he has a son, David, whom he hardly sees and doesn’t get along with. David desires the approval of his father, but has given up trying to please him. Sound like Jack and Christian much? Yeah, that was fairly obvious.

A great moment is when Jack notices that he has a scar where his appendix is. His mother tells him that he had it out when he was seven and is surprised that Jack doesn’t remember it. Another island deja vu moment that means things are starting to click.

Interesting to also see Dogan in Jack’s side reality talking about how his son is special, a lot like the references to Walt in previous seasons.

Back to the island, we have Hurley being instructed by Jacob to go to a lighthouse, but that he has to take Jack with him. He convinces Jack by saying he “has what it takes”, a throwback to Christian in season one saying that Jack did not have what it takes. Jack gets all huffy and puffy and they head for the lighthouse.

Along the way they meet up with Kate who is trying to find Claire. I’m guessing she has a surprise waiting for her, but more on that later. They also make a quick stop at the caves, which sets Hurley up as the voice of the audience as he wonders if Adam and Eve are 815 survivors sent back in time. I absolutely love when the writers put stuff like this in the show. We’ve been wondering this exact same thing since season one and now they say it out loud. Seems like maybe that isn’t the answer to the Adam and Eve question after all. I guess we’ll know soon enough.

So let’s not forget about our buddy Jin. Claire takes him back to her tent and they talk about how the Others captured her and burned her. She says she escaped and that they have Aaron. When she leaves momentarily, Jin finds a baby bassonet and inside is a mega-creepy animal skeleton dressed up like a baby. Claire has officially gone off the deep end.

She returns with one of the Others and demands to know where Aaron is or she will kill him. He denies knowing and then Jin spills the beans about Kate taking Aaron in an attempt to save the man’s life. Claire stops for a moment and the sends the business end of an axe into the Other’s chest.

Jin is more than freaked out and says that he made up the Kate/Aaron story to stop her. He then says that the Others have Aaron in the temple and that he will lead her to the secret entrance. Claire responds by saying that she would’ve killed Kate had that been true and we end that storyline with the entrance of Claire’s friend, Mib as Locke.

Nice move, Jin. I predict next week this threesome will get to the temple and MiB is going to light the place up. We will either have the destruction of the temple all together, or at least the last time the Others will be using it.

Guess who’s coming to dinner. Jacob says that Jack and Hurley have to go to the lighthouse to help someone who is coming to the island. Another candidate perhaps? Widmore, Hanso, Hawking or maybe someone who we haven’t seen yet? No matter who it is, I’m sure they are going to stir up all sorts of trouble.

Jack gets his ruin on, though, once at the lighthouse. They ascend to the top where they find mirrors attached to a wheel. The wheel has the degrees marked out and each degree has a number and name. These appear to correlate with the cave numbers and names from last week. As Hurley moves the wheel, we catch a glimpse of some images in the mirrors. Sawyer’s church was the most obvious to me, but then Jack notices his house. He gets all Jack and throws a huge fit about Jacob having watched him his whole life. He then smashes all the mirrors and walks out.

As Jack cools down from his temper tantrum, Jacob comes to Hurley and explains that he needed Jack to find this out so that he could know his role. He also said that they needed to be away from the temple, as it would be hitting the fan there anytime now. Once again, MiB is going to have a field day with all the Others he can toss around in the temple.

In the end, I believe they are going to have to choose sides. Will it actually be the sides of Jacob and MiB? Or does this refer to the two sides of reality that have taken place?

Perhaps they will be given the choice of which reality they want to live in. This choice will probably be made with great amounts of manipulation on all parts, but it would be an interesting wrap to the show.
