LOST – Lafleur (s5e8)

The hits just keep on coming.

In this episode, we see a mostly Sawyer-centric view of what happened to those left on the island from the time Locke left until the 6 (or so) return. Sawyer and Co. are headed back to the beach when they find a woman being attacked. After some classic gun play, we learn that the woman is a DHARMA member and the two men attacking her and killing her husband were Others. Sawyer spins Horace a tale about how they got to the island, convinces Richard they aren’t DHARMA, shacks up with Juliet and then meets up with Jack, Kate and Hurley. It really isn’t that confusing, I’m just not going to write it all out.

So, anyway, this was a great episode. I’m going to start by pointing out that we saw the completed 4-toed statue for about 2 seconds. AWESOME.

I loved learning the intricacies of what happened to this group after Locke left. The fact that Sawyer is now the head of DHARMA security is amazing. He fits the bill perfectly. That and he and Juliet hooked up. That’s what I’m talking about. And to any of you haters out there, Kate did Jack right before coming back to the island. Sawyer was waiting a long time and that boy’s got needs. But what does this mean to our overall storyline?

I think that we are going to see the Losties become really involved in what happens on the island between now and when they crash on 815. They will be responsible for some major event, perhaps even the incident. I think the fact that the writers have chosen to reveal the island’s backstory to us through this method is probably genius.

We know that Horace’s wife was able to have a child. What does this mean? It means that women can give birth on the island in 1974, but not in 2003. What’s the difference? I’m guessing the incident.

Are these people really going to live out their days in 1974? No, no way. Here’s the reason. Ben doesn’t know them. We know that Ben came to the island when Horace was there, the most accurate date I can find is the early 1970’s, which would be right about now. My guess is that within a few years, the Losties will jump again in time or something will drastically happen that removes them from the situation. What could that be?

Again, I go to the incident. My theory on the incident is that it will be some sort of event in which the Losties attempt to trigger a time shift in order to go back to their own time. Now, that sounds really selfish, since they really don’t know the consequences of such an action, but maybe there will be more dire reasons behind it. Lostpedia discusses the incident:

The incident involved a leak in the containment associated with an electromagnetic anomaly. The leak caused an unspecified charge to build up within the anomaly. As the charge built up, the magnetic field associated with the anomaly grew. After 108 minutes, the magnetic field was large enough to damage the Swan station. This incident most likely occurred before 1980, the production date of the film.

I think that we are going to see our Losties either causing or being directly involved with this event. They, with Dr. Chang (Candle, Halliwax) will be attempting something that will shift the Losties through time and cause Chang to lose his arm. Where will they go this time, I guess we’ll find out at the end of this season.

That’s my other prediction. Each season of Lost has introduced something and then wrapped it by season’s end. The Hatch, the Others at home, etc, each have a definite bookend. I believe this time shift moving back to 1974 will also end at the season finale and set up the war that is coming to the island.

This is the greatest TV show in history.

And it’s not on next week.

Crap.
