LOST – Because You Left (s05e01) & The Lie (s05e02)

I’m in such shock and awe right now, I don’t even know what to say…

These were the first new episodes of LOST we’ve had in months and they were so worth the wait.

The basics are that the people still on the island are caught in a time-loop of sorts that is causing them to be on the island, but randomly jump to different points in it’s history / future. The Oceanic 6 allegedly have to come back to stop the time jumping.

What we learn is that Ben is pushing to get everyone back to the island. Alpert told Locke that he needed to get them back as well. But, as usual, Ben seems shady and his interactions with non-Oceanic 6 seem to validate that.

I think this time-jumping thing is so money. It’s completely different from the other seasons of LOST and has brought great new arcs into the story. My only concern is that the time-jumps might continue throughout the duration of the entire season, leaving many casual viewers confused and annoyed. For that, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

What I really find interesting is how people continue to lie and what their motives are. Ben is never a surprise and I expect everything that comes out of his mouth to be a lie, but he’s so good, I still fall for his games. Faraday is really taking me aback, though. He knows so much more than he is letting on. The opening sequence with Halliwax (which I totally called by the way) shows that Faraday was around while they were building the hatches. This was something that was hinted to this summer when a video with Halliwax was revealed in which Faraday’s voice could be heard in the background.

When we first met Faraday, he was watching the plane wreckage and crying. When asked why he was crying, he said he didn’t know why. I think that might be partially true. I think Faraday has lived through some of these events before, but the constant time-jumping has affected his memory, like we are now seeing with Charlotte. The fact that he is on the island in the past and present, gives us insight that he knows what is going on, but may not have the ability to access that information within his brain.

Frogurt getting chest-blasted with a fiery arrow. As he was giving that speech, I knew he was toast, but that was way better than I expected. I guess the writers really only wanted one actor who had starred in Twister on the show.

Is Locke dead? I don’t think so. I think Ben has got something up his sleeve with this one. Granted, the Other’s really might have just used Locke as a pawn in this whole scenario, but either way, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of present Locke. Good thing past Locke is holding it down and busting the soldiers with knives again. We are also getting some connecting of when Richard met Locke when he was a kid. Great stuff.

Speaking of those soldiers, I’m guessing that we are looking at the 1940′s or 50′s island. Those soldiers are the one’s who left the US army knife that Anal Ucia talks about with Goodwin. It’ll be interesting to see them tie all that together.

My mind is still just reeling from those two eps. They went by so fast and I fear that I haven’t had time to properly digest them. I may need to start reviewing them a day later so that I can get my thoughts together.

Overall, epic two episodes. LOST, it’s good to have you back.
