Going to the Movies Alone
Why does this get such a bad rap?
I’ve gone to the movies by myself numerous times.
It started because I worked at several movie theaters over a 4-5 year period. Since I worked at the theater, I was able to go for free. So whenever I felt like going to a movie, I would. But, in high school and in college, it’s not always easy to convince someone to go to the movies with you when they know you don’t have to pay.
I don’t really see the argument of anyone saying that they can’t go to the movies alone. The number one thing I hear is that it’s awkward not having someone else there. My argument to that is that movies aren’t a social situation. You don’t, at least aren’t supposed to, talk during a movie, so what difference does it make if there isn’t someone sitting next to you.
The hetero-seat barrier is another argument.
If you go to the movies with a guy, there should always be one seat between you. This is what is known as the hetero-seat barrier. Therefore, what difference does it make if another guy is there with you, since they are going to be a seat away?
Hey, I go to the movies alone and there isn’t any shame it.

i don’t think you have social anxiety like you think you do. oh man. you obviously have no clue about feeling completely alone in a sea of people like i do on occasion. that’s going to the movie theater alone for me.

I have no problem with it either. I too became desensitized as a theatre employee.
