Gay Locker Rooms?

I really need to preface this review by stating that it’s intent is in no way to be homophobic.

Why do we have men’s and women’s locker rooms? Personally, I think it has to do with people’s ability to comfortably shower and or change their clothes.

I was talking to a friend recently who said that some dude asked him on a date. He turned the guy down, being straight and all, but still shares a locker room with this guy. He also said that it’s kind of awkward knowing that that guy is in the same room when he’s taking his clothes off.

Now, I’m not saying that gay men are perverts who are in locker rooms for the sole purpose of checking out guys, but that this could be an uncomfortable situation for all involved.

Let’s look at this from the perspective of a man changing in a woman’s locker room. I definitely would not want to change in front of a bunch of naked chicks. Mostly for the fact that no one really needs to see me naked, but also because it would be incredibly uncomfortable for me and definitely for all the girls. I think this could be the same scenario for homosexual men in male locker rooms.

Should homosexuals get separate locker rooms? I don’t think so. I mean, I really don’t want to be naked around a bunch of guys either, straight or gay. Perhaps locker rooms just need to be restructured in general. More personal, less open.

I think he’s trying to say that each person should get their own locker room stall, but there should be glory holes between both the men’s stalls and women’s. This way it would be fair for both gay and straight, and it would at least give people options. Right?

Being said friend, it is pretty weird. Changing in the same locker room with a guy who also asked me out is just plain uncomfortable. I never see him work out, I only see him go to the sauna and hot tub, and also hanging out in the locker room watching tv while he changes. Now I am not gay, but I am also not homophobic. My first reaction wasn’t, “Oh my god, you’re gay, get away from me!” Now the real reason why men and women have seperate locker rooms, showers, etc. Is because they don’t want other said guys or girls seeing them naked. On that same note then, shouldn’t there be a locker room for lesbians and gay guys. They definately won’t be looking at eachother. But that also wouldn’t work. Segregation, seperate but equal. Certainly cause a ruckus. All I know is this. The guy asked me out. Which probably means he’s attracted to me and wants to have sex with me. So what the heck am I supposed to do. Right now, I just roll with it. I just change and pretend he’s not there. I guess that’s all I really can do. Pretty soon it will be warm enough and I can just wear my workout clothes to the gym. But still. Still. What the heck?
